Evaluation: Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

This is the make-up I did for Laura and I.

Evaluation: Question 1: In what way does your media products, use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Use:-

• The masthead is big.
• The main image overlapping the masthead, and its center.
• The tag line is at the top of the masthead.
• There is a Plus bar at the bottom of the magazine.

Conventions:-

• Both use Bar Codes
• Both have Date
• Both have issue number
• Both have main story/image

Layout:-

The Layout in my magazine compared to the TOTAL FILM magazine is different, although I've got everything included in my magazine as on that.. such as the Conventions and masthead etc... But there are some differences:

• The text is in the center underneath my picture, whereas Total Films is at the left side.
• The PLUS bar at the bottom is different, with mine having a cross symbol and a red bar behind it.
• There are no other images featured on the front cover, where as I have two stories behind my main.
  

Develop:-

• The tag line, although both are at the top, Total Films is all one block colour, and quite big, whereas mine is small, with 'Behind the Scenes' highlighted in red.
• The bar-codes, all magazines have them, Total films is underneath the heading, whereas mine is at the bottom with the plus bar.

Challenge:-

The on thing I think I have challenged with my Film Magazine, 'PREMIERE' is the fact that the main picture, is shadowed, its very rare you get the main picture slightly darkened, but for a purpose. I made it so his eyes stand out, but the image itself is slightly darker than normal magazine images.

Use:-

• Both have main Film Titles, 'VENGEANCE' and 'DRAG ME TO HELL'.
• Both have main images.

Conventions:-

• Both have a Masthead.
• Both use Tag Lines.
• Both have a Character list and directors/producers etc..
• Both used images of the Main Character(s).

Layout:-

The Layout in my poster compared to the 'Drag Me To Hell' poster is different, although I've got everything included in my poster as on that.. such as the Conventions and masthead etc... But there are some differences:

• I don't have a imaged background, just a plain black one.
• I have 4 characters on my poster, but the 3 girls are just head shots.
• Also it looks like I have used more effects on my images, whereas they've added flames.

Develop:-

• What I've developed, comparing too 'Drag Me to Hell, is I've added names of the Actors to the top of the poster.
• Also the effects on my poster are not as visible as as 'Drag Me To Hell's' as the effects I've used are too make Brendon less visible making him black and white and slightly faded, also the 3 floating heads I've used are coloured blue, feeling cold and isolated, Whereas the other poster has used deep red flames.

Challenge:-

What I've challenged within my poster is, that you cant actually tell who the good or bad guy is, it is not as clear as most other stereotypical posters. Brendon is shadowed but has a broken heart so you feel sorry for him. The 3 of us, are cold and blue looking scared, are we dead or manipulative? you decide.




                                                      

   Use:-

• They both have the green audience approval clip, knowing that is has been approved for all audience.
• Both have the company Logos, ours are: Granite films and Crooked Pictures.

Conventions:-

• Both have a good use of music, how its all okay at the beginning but the music takes a twist.
• Both have clips of writing, such as: One Missed Call's trailer has "Every day 2 billion cell phones ring..." Whereas ours has "What does it take"
• Both introduce to the main characters right away.

Develop:-

• In our teaser what we've developed compared to 'One Missed Call' is that we have used a mobile phone clip in our trailer, although its not a challenge as other movie makers have used this, but its developed our trailer.

Challenge:-

• What our group has challenged, is not necessarily the conventions of a traditional trailer, but the story line of our movie/trailer, as you don't know who to feel more sorry for either, Brendon or us 3 girls, as Brendon gets dumped, but we get tortured for laughing!

Research and Planning: Comparison of my first and final draft of my magazine.

Looking at the magazine I first designed and looking at my final production, I can clearly see that my skills within media have progressed dramatically.
My photo skills are better, because on the old magazine I've used a standard camera, whereas on my new magazine I've used and LSR camera and you can tell by quality which is better.
I like how I've kept the tag line at the top the same, but with 'Behind the Scenes' a different colour it stands out more than the old magazine!

Research and Planning: Beckys Mobile Recording

Here is a recording that I did on my phone, to go onto our trailer, as the dumping scene. With the trailer, Anika and I have been working together on the editing and sound, whilst Laura has been absent, I feel its a trailer we can now be proud.. But Anika needs to finish her cinematography filming for people laughing at the dumping scene on youtube, which is this recording, so the location will be a computer sweet.

Research and Planning: Change of plan..

As Laura hasn't turned up for our last day for filming and picture taking, the story has had to change slightly, like instead of Laura being the main character who dumps Brendon, its become Me, because at least Anika and I can get our magazine and posters done for our blog. Its just the filming we won't be able to complete unfortunately, as we can't film without Laura, and she's the editor so it wouldn't be completed anyway.

Planning and Research: Storyboard

The story has changed again, from Brendon weirdly barking like a dog at the beginning? To him getting dumped by one of the girls, he still takes his revenge on the girls as a video of him getting dumped gets posted all over youtube! I think this storyline is a whole lot better than the other one!

Here is a first rough draft of my magazine cover, this is how I want it to look overall, but of course with a different image,and a few more stories at the side. The picture I want is an image of Laura center, look scared and fragile, then a sly shot of Brendon, almost as a shadowed figure, leaving it a mystery to who he is!

Research and Planning: Magazine research

Here is a Film Magazine that I have took interest into, and is a good starting point of how my final magazine should turn out! I have a great idea for what my photos should be like, I think we should Laura as the center picture looking scared as if being watched, then have the side of Brendon in the top right corner, looking back at her, but all darkened out, as if a silhouette starring at her, so it doesn't give the film away.

All I need now is the pictures to complete my idea, but at the moment I'm doing a rough draft on photoshop, using an older photo of Laura and I looking scared and beaten up. Only as a replacement of where my real pictures will go.

Planning and Research: Test fonts for my masthead

Here are some test masthead fonts that I think would look really well for my magazine. I really like the second tester, that font is futura. I think this is the one I will use for my magazine.

Planning and Research: Review of the week.

This week hasn't been the best of weeks for our group. Fortunately this has been the only week where I haven't been stuck in hospital thankfully. But Anika has had some family problems this week, and the final little bits of filming we needed to do have again been postponed but by none of our own faults, its just unfortunate how things have turned out for our group.

Today we worked in groups, to assess, both teaser trailer for groups, and an individuals blogger poster and magazine cover. The feedback I've had has helped a lot, and hopefully I can catch up to everyones level, and finish my blogger for the deadline.

Research and Planning: Group Meeting 4

Today instead of catching up on taking our pictures, we have decided to re-think the beginning of our trailer, we've scrapped the idea of making Brendon act like a dog, and gone for a more realistic story line of girl finish's boy and we post the video of him getting dumped onto the World Wide Web of youtube, making him the laughing stock of the campus, then things start to get bad for him, and he turns into an angry killing person. Also we have had another re-think of the name 'Avenge', with the dictionary definition meaning to have revenge for someone who has sacrificed for you, we've decided to go with 'Vengeance' I really like this name miles better than the last two. 

So the plan for the week is to get the last tweaks of filming done and take pictures on the SLR camera, I already have some good ideas for my music magazine and poster, I just need the pictures to go with it.

Research and Planning: Review of the week..

This past week, finding time to take pictures has been stressful, we planned to do it the previous week, but unfortunately Laura became ill, and with me being in hospital every Friday, its finding time for all 3 of us.. we have decided now to take pictures on Tuesday dinner, with the SLR, although we took some decent pictures on the digital camera, we think to boost our marks up more the SLR will give better quality and focus more on our 'Horrified Faces' than the digital technology could.

Research and Planning: Image Quality

Today in media, we have been testing out the standard digital camera, and its quality, with the SLR cameras. We have found that the SLR quality of a photo is much better than the digital, the background colour is natural, its not blurred, the pixels are of good quality. I think for my magazine and poster I will use the SLR camera. We hope to take and have our pictures completed by Friday.

Research and Planning: Plan for the week..

After a few stressful weeks after constantly being in and out of hospital, i realize that i am slowly running out of time to complete my work, my magazine front cover and film poster, are all i really need to have completed, but with the deadline this Friday I have a feeling I may not make it considering I'm in hospital from Wednesday to Friday this week. Its doable to get it done, but it will not be my best work unfortunately. But all I can say is, my plan for the week is to just try my hardest in completing everything.

Research and Planning: Group Meeting 3

Since our deadline is Friday the 14th we decided to have a group meeting the first day back, after reviewing over our work we have decided on yet another name change, from 'SILHOUETTE' to 'AVENGE' we feel that this is suited more to our story line of our teaser trailer, once we got the full dictionary definition of Silhouette it just didnt seem to work.
